Open die forging

Open die forging of forgings belongs to the group of massive forming and is mainly used for project-based parts with a single part drawing. In simple terms, an open die forging is “tailor-made” for the particular application.

Open-die forging of forgings is not economical for series production. The process of drop forging is to be preferred here.

Open die forging significantly improves the mechanical properties of the steel such as the yield point. The weight range of the parts that are manufactured using free-form forging ranges from 100 kg to 350 tons.

Duplex and Superduplex Steels

Forged parts made of duplex and superduplex or also 2-phase steels (ferrite & austenite) are preferred in the chemical industry, the petrochemical industry, in seawater desalination systems and in offshore technology due to their chemical properties.

In the open die forging process, a high level of experience in dealing with duplex and super duplex is required. Duplex and super duplex react to forging too fast and falling below the required forging temperature with cracks in the component.

For project business and components that cannot be manufactured from the available standard stock material, we serve you with our partners for components from available ingot material in the duplex & superduplex steel grades like F55 (1.4501), F53 (1.4410) and F51 (1.4462).

Tool steel

We have also specialized in open die forged parts made from tool steel (including the extrusion industry). In particular, we offer you open-die forgings in grades 1.2316 and 1.2312, 1.2738, 1.2714.

We manufacture bushings, shafts, rings and other geometries for components that have to use the properties of the respective tool steel grade.

We support you in a dimension area and property area that cannot be served by common bar material stores.
